Two French miniatures after Francois Boucher, handpainted over a type of sepia transfer print, onto Celluloid. Boucher, a popular 18th Century French artist, was noted for his pastoral and mythological scenes; he was much copied and immitated, as in these lovely miniatures. Rare and amazing antique Chatelaine made completely by hand, with four original miniature oval paintings on wafer thin ivory or bone disks, under beveled glass. Decorative mounts are composed of hand-formed filigree coils and spirals. We find no marks on the metal, although it is probably Sterling Silver. Accompanying the chatelaine within its velvet- and silk-lined leather case, is a papyrus text, written in Pali script, usually the literary and scholarly written language of Buddhist monks. Prob... Aime Dupont, Belgian 1840-1903. " Portrait Of A Woman ", Miniature photograph/painting. Signed Aime Dupont lower center. Condition good with some minor loss on edges below the liner of frame. The portrait is both a photograph on glass enhanced with hand painting. Dimensions: Height 4", Width 3". Dupont was a renowned portraitist of opera singers in Paris and in New York in the late Nineteenth Century. He died in 1903 but his studio continued on into the 1930's..".".... Click for details
