Bloemaert, known for painting, engraving and teaching, was born in Gorinchem, Holland in 1564. At age nine, he moved with his family to Utrecht where he became a pupil of Gerrit Splinter and Joos de Beer. 29.5" x 41.5" oil on cradled oak panel. Fantasy view of Solomon's temple complete with the Holy of Holies and an area for animal sacrifices. Neefs completed several in this genre, although this is the only depiction of Solomon's Temple I can find in the literature. Note inscription with date of 1613.
