An extremely rare set of solid cast brass andirons in the form of sitting owls (the fire light glows through the glass eyes), along with a matching set of fire tools of cast iron with cast brass owl form handles. The tool set includes a stand, poker, tongs, shovel and broom. The log holders have been professionally made as replacements. The measurements are: tool stand 26-1/2" H., the andirons are 14-1/2" H. x 9" W. X 16-1/2" D., all in excellent condition, circa 1900...

Cast iron with old paint decoration. Some doorstops were painted at the foundry while others were available without paint and could be painted later by the purchaser. A very rare set of figural fireplace tools comprised of a stand, shovel, poker and tongs, each with a handle in the form of a Hessian soldier, with what appears to be original paint in exceptionally fine condition, probably made by the Howes foundry of Boston, Ma., circa 1900, 29-1/2" H., the stand is 6-1/2" x 8-1/2".
