The public launching of Parker's career was in 1826 when his portraits of Washington, Jefferson, Lafayette and Franklin were placed in the chambers of the Louisiana State Legislature. Subsequent to that recognition of his talent, Parker painted a portrait of John James Audubon, befriended him and traveled with him to Versailles in 1828.
