He initially painted similar "lively genre scenes" but later changed to painting landscapes and coastal seascapes, which were guaranteed to meet with more commercial success. In Nicely Faded Mahogany, the hinged, rectangular lid opening to an interior fitted with an arrangement of valanced pigeonholes and small drawers. Below are four reverse-serpentine graduated drawers and the whole is raised on graceful ogee bracket feet. The grain of the mahogany on the lid and drawer fronts is very fine and the sides are 'plum-pudding' mahogany. The pulls and some of the escutcheons appear to be original. ...
