Charles A. Harkness (American, b. 1853)

Provenance: from the Estate of Ella Poe Burling, Washington, DC.
An architect-draftsman and painter, Harkness worked in both oils and watercolors. He was active in Washington, DC from 1872-1905. Two of his watercolors were included in a 1982 exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art entitled, “Washington on the Potomac”.

James Curnock (British, 1812-1870)

A resident of Bristol, Curnock was best known for his portraits and figure subjects. He exhibited at both the Royal Academy and the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street. His work is held in the permanent collection of the Bristol Art Gallery.

Schäfer studied at l'Ecole National de Beaux-Arts in Paris. He painted town scenes, city scenes and cathedral interiors in Belgium, Germany, and France. He was known to have painted in a style reminiscent of Alfred Montague.
