An artist of landscapes, portraits and country genre scenes, Hadden captured people and scenes from his travels in both oil and watercolor. During his life, he traveled extensively through Venezuela and Canada. Additionally, in his early thirties, he lived for a year in Rome, Italy.

Zarutka was born in Hungary. However, when it was time for his to artistic training to begin, he traveled to Austria to study at the Academy of Vienna with Professor Pochwalski. Following his formal studies, he traveled throughout Europe. He ended in Paris where he remained for many years.

A student at the Academy of Fine Art of Vienna, Hamza studied under Edward von Engerth. A highly skilled and technically gifted painter, he favored genre scenes set in a Rococo environment. In particular, he was known for his depictions of chevaliers and royalty. He exhibited in Vienna, Dresden, Munich and London where he won a gold medal in 1891.
