Eight Antique English Transfer Tiles 18th Century Games

19th Century Unmarked English Transfer Print Tiles (brown on buff ground), each depicting a different game as it was played in earlier centuries. Costuming of the players appears to be 17th to 18th Century. Left to right, the games are: Bocce Ball, Cricket, Billiards, Leap Frog, Archery, Catch Ball, Nine Pins, and Blind Man's Bluff. Central motif includes much pictoral detail, and is depicted within a large outlined circle, typical of the era; corners of each tile display elaborate, clever designs relating to the central motif game. Each tile is 6" square, nearly .50" thick. Condition is not perfect, but very good; as every tile has some chipping around the edges and at the corners, although only one has had two corners broken off and subsequently reaffixed; overall, age-confirming crazing to all tiles. Two examples remain in frames -- a sampling of an interesting decorative use. The tiles may be mounted or framed, separately or together. 'Cept for one tile, which we have thoroughly cleaned, the tiles bear evidence on the reverse of various surfaces onto which they have been mounted in years past. c. 1880-1900. Heavy. $35 US Shipping. [please ask us for detailed close-ups of the tiles]
