19th 20th C Pigeon Blood Cloisonne Ginbari Lamps Pair

Striking pair of late 19th to early 20th Century, Japanese, Pigeon Blood Red, "Akasuke" (transparent red enamel over copper) Cloisonne Vases which have been drilled and made into matching lamps. Created in basse-taille (relief design which is formed into the copper and under the glaze), in a bamboo-leaf and bird pattern, and in the Japanese, ginbari style of the dimpled, foil background. Each vase sits atop a carved, wood base, which in turn, is centered upon a 1" x 4.25" (2.54 x 10.79 cm) diameter marble base. Gold and silver wires which surround a beautiful double rose design, complete with thorns on the stems; silver mounts. Unsigned (unless signature was at point where vases were drilled). Each vase is a height of 6" (15.24 cm), while the overall lamp height is 11" (27.94 cm). Excellent condition, with one enamel flake (pictured) to the base of one lamp at the point where it was drilled. c. 1890-1920. $22 U.S. Shipping.
