A Fine French Directoire patinated bronze and
Ormolu or gilt bronze vase or urn in the neoclassical
manor. Although very Empire and Neoclassical this item is from the Directiore period from the 18th century the period just before the First French Empire period began. French Circa: 1795-1800. Measuring: 12" high and 7.5"
wide. The scarce subject matter of the present vase was almost taboo for artists to use such themes during the time period. There was a brief and experimental period in the late 18th century into the Empire period combining the then vogue designs of all things classical with erotic and subject matter of a macob nature such as bats, rodents, the devil, private areas Of the female's anatomy as well as the use of snakes. ------------------------------------------------ En français: vase bronze doré directoire empire |
