A Russian Empire ormolu or gilt bronze mounted Charoite stone vase. Russian,
circa:1810-1820. Measuring: 6.75" high. Weight: 10 pounds. This fine object of virtue is a vase carved from the hard stone Charoite. It is a silicate borosilicate found only in, Murun Massif, Charo River, Yakutskaya, Russia. The vase is mounted upon an ormolu and Mother of Pearl circular base. Russians as well as French during the 18th century through the early 19th century prized and collected rare stones and marbles and lavishly adorned and mounted them in gilt bronze. Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. Original patina present and intact. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact. |
