A Fine 18th century Italian Empire Carved marble portrait medallion set in an ormolu or gilt bronze mounted Porphyry and agate frame. Italian, circa: 1790-1800. Measuring: 3.75" by 3.25. Weight: 5 pounds. The fine carved carrara white marble oval portrait depicts a Roman. The Medallion is set into an Avoid carved specimen of Egyptian Imperial * Porphyry mounted further in an ormolu mounted agate hardstone frame. A fine example of the art work which emerged from Italy during the * Grand Tour. The frame: Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight.
