Entering the Harbor Attributed to Johannes Christiaan Schotel (Dutch, 1787-1838) Charcoal and ink wash on paper. A soldier turned artist, Schotel was skilled in both printmaking and painting. He studied under both Adriaan Meulemans and Martinus Schouman, eventually collaborating with Schouman. Hs works are held in the permanent collections of museums throughout Holland. The Rijksmuseum and Scheepvaart Museum in Amsterdam, Dordrecht Museum and Boymans Museum in Rotterdam all own examples of his work. Schotel is listed in the Dictionary of Marine Artists by Brewington, Dictionary of Sea Painters by Archibald and Dictionnaire des Peintres, Sculpteurs, Dessinateurs, et Graveurs by Bénézit
