"Venice" by Emily Selinger (Am., 1848-1927)
View of Venice

Emily Harris McGary Selinger (American, 1848-1927)

Gouache on paper, signed and inscribed: “Venezia, W.F.B.”

Accomplished as both a painter and writer, Selinger was educated in the US and abroad. She studied at the Cooper Institute in NYC and under A. Rocci in Florence and M. Roosenboom in Holland. She exhibited at the Boston Art Club and at the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association where she won a silver medal.

Professionally, she traveled extensively through Europe as a correspondent for the Boston Evening Transcript. While she was best known for her paintings of flowers, her travels afforded her considerable opportunity to capture the many sights she encountered.

Selinger is listed in Who Was Who in American Art by Falk.
