Jean-Francois Theodore Gechter (French, 1796-1844) Greyhound on a Rocky Outcropping Bronze sculpture with a dark brown patina, signed. Provenance: from the Estate of Virgil McMahan
Height: 11.25” A lifelong Parisian, Gechter studied under Bosio and Gros. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1827-1844. At the age of 41, he was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. He began his career sculpting heroic figures and contemporary portraits, as well as bas-reliefs for public statuary.
