Painting: 16” x 22” This charming composition of white and purple lilacs in a woven basket represents a popular subject for new England painters during the 19th century. Although unsigned, this work is strongly attributed to Jonas LaValley, a Massachusetts artist known for his still life paintings of fruit and flowers. LaValley is listed in Who Was Who in American Art (Falk, 1999). |
