Douglas Brown (American, 1907-1970) Western Scene with Conastoga Wagon Oil on cardboard, signed.
Image size: 18” x 24” Painter and teacher Douglas Brown lived and worked in New Orleans where he served as an instructor at Dilliard University. Prior to that he lived in New York and was a member of the American Artists Congress, an orgainzation that championed the Social Realsist style, exemplified here by Western Scene with its bright colors, bold brushwork and positive “Americana” theme. Brown’s work was exhibited at the Art Institue of Chicago and in the 1930’s and 40’s. He is listed in Who Was Who in American Art (Falk, 1999). |
