Those four panels surround the Doves of Pliny, an image often used in micromosaics, which comes from a Roman floor mosaic at Hadrian’s villa in Tivoli and is believed to be a copy of a lost ancient Greek mosaic at Pergamon described by Pliny the elder...

Cast iron with old paint decoration. Some doorstops were painted at the foundry while others were available without paint and could be painted later by the purchaser. Folk Art Walking Stick with an "Opera Handle" carved in the shape of a Cat, with Glass Eyes and paint decoration suggesting a Tiger Cat. Because the surface of the wood is entirely painted, the type of wood used is not obvious, but the cane is fairly light weight suggesting a softer wood. 33 3/4" to the top of the handle, 35" to the top of the cat's ears.
